
PRINCIPAL
Dave Sedcole - Dave was previously the Principal at Peria School which is another great Far North school. He was at Peria for five years coming from Greytown School in the Wairarapa.
" My goal is to provide the best learning environment possible for our tamariki, a place where all are able to reach their potential".
TEACHING STAFF
Miss Lesley Holemby (Deputy Principal) - Room 1 NE/Year 1: Lesley takes the New Entrants in Room 1. She is also the senior teacher for rooms 1, 2 and 3. She is reading-recovery trained. She enjoys a creative approach to teaching and loves opportunities to incorporate drama in her programme.
Mrs Lynda Meads - Room 2 Year 2: Lynda is teaching in Room 2. She takes Year 1 and 2 students. Lynda leads the jump jam dance sessions at our school assemblies and takes music with the junior classes. She has recent reading-recovery experience and enjoys teaching dance, drama, art and music.
Mr Stephen Archibald - Room 6 Year 4 / Year 5: Stephen teaches in Room 6. He takes Year 4 and 5 students. Stephen is also our bus controller and sports events coordinator. He enjoys promoting sport and is the 'golf director' at Mangonui School. Stephen also enjoys his role as the Paul Jennings guru!
Mrs Carole Archibald - Room 7 Year 6: Carole teaches in Room 7. She takes Year 5 and 6 students. Carole is the senior teacher for rooms 5, 6 and 7.
Mrs Laticia Williams - Room 4: Laticia is a second year teacher who worked at Kaingaroa and Awanui before coming to Mangonui.
Mrs Merepaea Heta - Room 3: Merepaea teaches our year 2 and 3 class. Merepaea is responsible for Te reo Maori and Tikanga Maori.
PART TIME TEACHING STAFF
Mrs Marguerite Simmonds - Reading Recovery. Marguerite teaches the reading recovery programme and takes students whose second language is English. Marguerite also plays the keyboard while the children join in with their singing.
SUPPORT STAFF
Mrs Linda Caples - Teacher Aide: Linda is a full time teacher aide. Linda loves the variety in her job. She assists classroom teachers, supporting programmes, helps with the Rainbow Reading Programme and school sports - she is the lead coach for school softball, an activity enjoyed by many at lunchtime.
Mrs Turi Hockenhull - Kaiarahi i te reo. Turi is a teacher aide who assists with junior students. Turi enjoys doing harakeke (flax weaving) and all forms of arts and crafts with our students.
Tina Walker - Tina runs the school lexia programme which gives extra support to students with their reading. Tina also helps out in the junior classes.
OFFICE
Pat Burk - Pat is Mangonui School's office manager and is a wealth of knowledge. She has great joy in keeping the principal on his toes.
Tina Walker - Tina is currently helping in the school office and is also in charge of our school Lexia Reading programme.
CLEANER/CARETAKER
Mr Mike Pooley - Michael is a full time caretaker. Mike does a great job looking after the grounds and managing our school property. Mike is also a local "Justice of Peace" and willingly assists members of the public with document signing. He is great with the students - encouraging them in their learning.
Michelle Taipari-Wells - Michelle is our cleaner.
DENTAL NURSES
Kay and Bianca are our school dental therapists. They are at Mangonui School for about one term each year. At other times they are at one of the other local school clinics. They can be contacted by phone at 09 406 1917.
THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The School Board of Trustees is elected by local parents and caregivers at tri-annual meetings. The Board of Trustees is a statutory body charged with the management of property, maintenance, finance policy and decision making on behalf of the parents of Mangonui School.
The functions of the Board include:
- The control and management of the expenditure of Government Funds allocated to it by the Ministry
- The control and management of school funds, donations, subscriptions and any other money which may be received by the Board
- General supervision, care and upkeep of the school buildings and grounds
- Care and maintenance of school equipment and furniture
- Governance and policy making
- Encouragement of sympathetic relations between teachers and parents and support of all activities organised to promote the welfare of the school and to maintain the interest of parents
